Do you want to have fun while learning Spanish? If that is the case, you may want to learn to conjugate divertir, a particularly fun Spanish verb. Divertir translates to amuse, or entertain in English. However, if used as a reflexive verb, it can also be used to talk about having fun. One way for English-speakers to remember this verb is to note its similarity with the word ‘‘diversion’’ which often indicates an entertainment.
Since it is a regular verb, the grammar for this Spanish verb is pretty straightforward. However, note that when conjugated in certain verb tenses, divertir undergoes a stem change that needs to be taken into consideration.

Divertir Put to Use
Divertir can also be used in several idiomatic expressions in Spanish. For example: A ver a un velorio y a divertirse a un fandango. While it is hard to find an accurate equivalent for this idiom; it could be translated as ‘‘some things in life need to be taken seriously,’’ or ‘‘in all seriousness.’’
Another common expression is dime cómo te diviertes, y te diré quién eres, which translates to ‘‘tell me the things you do for fun, and I’ll tell you who you are.’’ It is a variation of the old saying ‘‘tell me with whom you walk and I will tell you who you are.’’
You can now have some fun, entertain your friends, or just focus on being less serious. Divertir can be used in many situations and its conjugation rules are not difficult to remember.
